Leisure Activities and Excursion Destinations

The landscape surrounding the lakes Skagern, Vänern, Vättern and Unden offers unforgettable impressions and experiences – not only to lovers of nature. Fishing trips, bird watching, and observations of elks and other wild animals from one of the many observation towers, collecting mushrooms or hiking – these are just some of the activities you can engage yourself in while visiting Delebäck. We also highly recommend you visit one of the many nature reserves located in our region, such as for example Tiveden or Kinnekulle.

For those who like to exercise when they are on vacation, Delebäck offers many opportunities to do so. Water sports, golf on the nearby golf course (5 km) and hiking tours are just some examples of what you can do. For cyclists there are cycling tracks, which take you through the impressive landscape. Apart from the classic Skagern Tour, you can take a ride alongside the Göta-canal and watch the boats passing through the locks. For families with children we also recommend a trolley ride on the shutdown railway in Gullspång (10 km).

The region between the greatest lakes of Sweden – Vänern and Vättern – is well worth a visit from guests interested in history and culture, too. Not far from Delebäck you will find the sites described in Jan Guillou’s books about Arn the Knight, which also served as a shooting location for the movie version of the medieval epos. Frans G Bengtsson, who is well known far beyond the Swedish borders for his stories about the viking chief Röde Orm from The Longships, lived at Ribbingsfors manor just 5 km away from Delebäck. Especially interesting for families with children is the annual medieval week in Hova (10 km from Delebäck). Hova Riddarvecka, as it is called, delights thousands of visitors every year with knights festivals and medieval markets taking place every day during one week in July. In 2011 Hova Riddarvecka will take place between the 9th and the 17th of July. Other destinations, well suited for a day trip, are Läckö Castle by the lake Vänern just outside Lidköping, Vadstena Monastery where Holy Birgitta lived, Selma Lagerlöf’s home Mårbacka in Värmland, the fortress of Karlsborg and many more.

Stockholm (300 km) and Gothenburg (200 km) are of course highly recommendable excursion destinations, which you should not miss while you visit Sweden.

If we can be of any assistance when you plan your visit to Delebäck, please do not hesitate to contact us. We also recommend you to contact the Tourist Information Centres in Hova and Gullspång for further information about our fine region.
